Workshops in primary schools
CSI’s activities in Luxembourg focus on workshopsaimed at primary school years 3 and 4. In the first workshop children are placed in the situation of being unable to read or write, such that they experience at first hand the feeling of failing to cope with the most mundane of everyday tasks. In the second workshop they talk about their personal experience of illiteracy, before moving on to the subject of education in the world. Using a school atlas and various statistics, they try to discover what the education situation is like on the different continents, and to find reasons for the disparities. In the third and final workshop the children, by playing our board game LEKOLI, discover why their peers in the developing world do not have the good fortune to attend school.

Side by side with these workshops in schools, CSI Lëtzebuerg also organises other activities based on the subject of education in the world. Below is a description of our latest activities:
LEKOLI
CSI Lëtzebuerg has produced its board game LEKOLI with the support of the Ministry of Cooperation. LEKOLI can be used as a traditional parlour game or played as part of a workshop on the subject of access to education.
LEKOLI is designed for children aged 9-12. The game’s objective is to make children understand the importance of attending school. They need to realise that going to school is not necessarily self-evident for other children, and that the knowledge they acquire at school is important for their everyday lives, and for realising their dreams.
In playing the game, the children are confronted with the obstacles which complicate access to education and which, regrettably, are part of the everyday lives of other children. The game is accompanied by a detailed booklet containing facts and figures relating to the subject of education, together with advice on how to approach this topic with children. The small format version of LEKOLI is no longer available, but the large format version (for groups) can be borrowed from us (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. / 26 64 93 89 - 21) or from CITIM (55, avenue de la Liberté, L-1931 Luxembourg).
LEKOLI can be played in German and in French.
